Among the on-going slum sanitation programme in Mumbai, Pratha Samajik Sanstha has taken up the task of revamping toilets under the sustainable sanitation through community programme in Mulund, Ghatkopar, Thane and Bhiwandi.
Speaking to Clean India Journal, Anil Bhatia, Head of Pratha Samajik Sanstha, said, “We are collaborating with Society for the Promotion of Area Resource Centers (SPARC) on the slum sanitation programme through community participation. We identify toilet blocks which already exist in municipal lands and renovate them.” Toilet blocks are built near floating population, with 20 blocks maintained by community divided in mandals. Around 510 toilets blocks have been constructed and maintained in areas covering 3,200 slums with the help of 800 mandals.
