CIJ-AJ Hospital awareness campaign for hospitals in Mangalore

With just over a month to go for the 9th edition of Clean India Show, Clean India Journal along with AJ Hospital & Research Centre, Mangalore, organised an exclusive session on Professional Cleaning in Hospitals at Mangalore. More than 50 people from several hospitals in and around Mangalore gathered at the AJ Hospital conference hall last week to attend the exclusive session deliberating on various mechanised cleaning solutions, right cleaning chemicals, washroom hygiene and outsourcing cleaning services.

Mangalore, a fast growing city of Karnataka, has over 50 established hospitals and over 90% of them are using conventional modes of cleaning the premises. Opening the session, Dr Prashant Marla, Medical Director, AJ Hospital, said, “Even though there are various professional cleaning methods not all hospitals are exposed to the latest technology. We thank the Clean India Journal team for having made this possible by organising a session in Mangalore.”

Making a presentation on the various mechanised cleaning solutions for Hospital, Tony Chazhoor, National Sales Manager of Karcher, explained in detail the operations and applications of specific cleaning machines. From the Chemical end, Madhukumar K, GM-Sales & Marketing, Schevaran Laboratories, explained the need for understanding chemical compositions and their applications in cleaning besides best practices like colour coding and use of microfibre in surface cleaning.

Besides general cleaning, washroom hygiene is a major concern for hospitals. Ravi Vishwanathan, Director of Best Practice Washrooms Pvt Ltd briefed the gathering on hygienic maintenance and outsourcing of washroom hygiene services. Explaining the need for outsourcing professional cleaning of hospitals to cleaning contractors, Vinay Deshmukh, CEO, Forbes Facility Services Pvt Ltd, said that it is essential to identify the areas of the hospital that can be outsourced to a cleaning contractor. He also cautioned the hospital delegates on choosing the right and professional service provider from the organised segment rather than getting disappointed by outsourcing to inexperienced smaller contractors.

Infection Control department heads, Managers, Administration heads and housekeeping staff were exposed to a lot of new concepts like colour coding, the use of microfibre mops, need for dosing chemicals and machines used for surface cleaning. Concluding the session, Dr Marla urged the hospital representatives to impress upon their management on the need for adopting professional cleaning methods in order to achieve hospital infection control. All these solutions will be showcased at the Clean India Show.
