Tackling Plastic Pollution: Innovations in Plastic Waste Management

As we approach the Waste Technology Expo 2023, part of the expansive Clean India Technology Week 2023, the spotlight is firmly on the pressing issue of plastic pollution. India’s rapid urbanisation and economic growth have led to an increase in plastic consumption. Over a five-year period, the nation’s plastic consumption has surged at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.7%, escalating from 14 million tonnes in the financial year 2016-17 to a staggering 20 million tonnes in 2019-20, as highlighted by the Marico Innovation Foundation.

Such growth in consumption has its repercussions. India generates a concerning 3.4 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, and alarmingly, only 30% of this is recycled. The remaining waste often finds its way to landfills, aquatic dumps, and our environment, causing detrimental effects on local ecologies. States like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu are significant contributors, accounting for 38% of the total plastic waste generated in the country.

Waste Technology Expo 2023, is set to address this monumental challenge by showcasing pioneering technologies and methods developed to recycle, repurpose, and reduce plastic consumption. The event will serve as a nexus for innovators, environmentalists, and policymakers to collaborate on sustainable solutions. From advancements in recycling processes to innovative repurposing methods and strategies to reduce plastic consumption, attendees will gain insights into the future of plastic waste management.

Join us at the Waste Technology Expo 2023, to explore the forefront of combating plastic pollution, where innovation meets sustainability, and where collective efforts pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.
