New Delhi railway station is one of India’s most important railway stations. All Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express trains connecting the national capital to other cities originate/terminate here. Around 200,000 passengers use the station daily.
In 2007, the responsibility of the Rodent Control Operations on ‘A’ class stations was given to the Medical Department of Railways. The department was in desperate search for a Pied Piper who could rid the NDLS of thousands of rats. The rodent population had almost doubled between 2007-2009 affecting train services and passenger movement. After trying out several contractors, the job was finally assigned to ISS Hicare in March 2009. Clean India Journal spoke to Ravi Kumar & Sushil Mishra, Technical Managers.
