Taking pride in cleanliness

Cleanest City: I am proud of the city I live in. Being a well planned city, Chandigarh is one of the cleaner cities in India. And that is because the residents of Chandigarh take pride in their city and take care to keep it neat and clean.

Being clean is a sign of spiritual purity, as in ‘Don’t forget to wash your ears, cleanliness is next to godliness.’ This phrase was first recorded in a sermon by John Wesley in 1778, but the idea is ancient, found in Babylonian and Hebrew religious tracts.

I ensure that a regular cleaning regimen is followed and strictly adhered to at home and the surrounding area. Since I live in an area where there is a lot of greenery and trees, we’ve adopted the neighbourhood. We take care of the trees by keeping them pruned, the grass trimmed and watered.

It is a proven fact that productivity levels are heavily influenced by the cleanliness of the workplace. I spend roughly about 45 to 50 hours training and shooting in a week. If I do not take care of the cleanliness and the hygiene of the shooting range, it will begin to affect my health and I won’t be able to perform to the best of my capability.

It’s really painful that most of the people, supposedly educated, throw wastes on streets instead of using a dustbin. Are we not responsible for keeping our country clean? This is a big threat to our country, that we keep our homes very clean and our streets and surroundings untidy.

We know that hygiene is a key factor in good health. Simple steps like de-cluttering, throwing garbage in waste bins, regular dusting and cleaning at our homes and workplaces make them far healthier places and help avoid many illnesses.
