The Taloja Waste Management project coming up on 117 hectares in Mumbai has attracted 37 companies – 15 foreign and 22 Indian. There is also keen interest from foreign firms in taking part in the e-waste management project, which will take care of computer and electronic waste generated in the region. The solid waste project will handle 2,000 metric tonnes daily from the corporations of Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar and Bhiwandi-Nizampur, and the councils of Ambernath and Kulgaon- Badlapur. The project will be developed on a public-private partnership basis and would be completed in two years. The four-hectare facility in Taloja will streamline the disposal of e-waste, which is posing problems in the region. Maharashtra creates about 20,000 tonnes of e-waste annually, and Mumbai contributes more than 11,000 tonnes to it.
