Thane to produce fuel from waste

TMC (Thane Municipal Corporation) has roped in Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth NGO to manage its biodegradable waste to fuel production project. Under the new PPP model based project, the test run was successful at its Kopri STP plant. The NGO collects biodegradable waste from various locations and produces briquettes, a type of fuel from wood chips, sawdust, agricultural waste and charcoal.

In this process, around seven tones of briquettes fuel will be generated every day and the NGO will start providing one tonne of fuel to TMC from 2017 onwards to run a boiler at one of its hospital in Kalwa.
