It is true that bed-making is an art very close to the housekeeping staff serving at a hotel. Towel art, flower, leaves… the housekeepers go all artistic in making the guest feel that extra awe when they enter the room after a tiring day. When it comes to doing the room of a wedding couple, it becomes far more decorative and welcoming. This and so much more beyond imagination was presented by young housekeepers competing at the National Room Stylist Challenge, Colombo. Held for the third consecutive year, the Challenge was supported by The Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association and Sri Lanka Housekeepers Association. “This platform provides a unique opportunity for all housekeeping professional to showcase their talents,” said Vindhya Rathnavibhushana of the Sri Lanka Housekeepers’ Association who was on the organizing committee.
Judging the competition, the Chief Jury member, Avril Sule — Independent Consultant & Trainer in Housekeeping – said, “The participants displayed a fine combination of their professional expertise and creativity.” The three-member jury panel including Mary Hall, Managing Director of Hallmark Training-Ireland and Aminta Zettel, Sales Director, Hotel Service Division-Wanzl, Middle East-UAE selected three winners.
The competition took place during the 14th edition of the Colombo Hotel Show 2019 which was held from November 12-14 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

Alongside, the housekeeping masterclass, ‘Beyond Cleaning’, was conducted for the first time on this platform. Sujiva Withana from The Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association who was on the organizing committee said “It was a unique session introduced for the first time. 62 housekeepers from across Sri Lanka participated in the highly interactive masterclass, conducted by Avril Sule. It was a great success and well received. The session concluded on a high note (literally), with the participants singing, “Clean the World”.
