TMC: No place to dump garbage

Fumbling for four years to find a dumping ground for trash, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) in Maharashtra is now simply heaping garbage in private lands. Though the TMC had earlier acquired 17-acres of land for dumping garbage near Daighar hamlet, it could not be used due to the spirited opposition from the villagers. To add to its woes, the TMC generates 800 metric tonnes of garbage every day. No wonder, a beeline of trucks laden with trash can be seen parked along the Eastern Expressway for hours.
