Toons Teach

A non-profit organisation, Sesame Workshop India (SWI), conducted Mobile Community Viewing Initiative (MCV) in the slum areas of Belgachhia, Rajabazar, Tangra, Topsia, and Ekbalpore in Kolkata for changing the views on cleanliness and hygiene for numerous children in the area. The children who gather round to watch episodes of the children’s television series Gali Gali Sim Sim, now understand the importance of collecting garbage in dustbins, keeping the lanes of their locality clean and litter free, keeping their pets clean and having good behaviour. The show based on the popular American show Sesame Street is aimed at teaching the children valuable lessons in hygiene and good behaviour.
