Total segregation

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to take its fight for waste segregation to the source. BMC has decided to enforce 100% at source segregation from July onwards; failure to comply will lead to fines. After two failed attempts in 2000 and 2008, the Corporation is working hard to meet the service levels benchmarks prescribed by the Union Ministry for Urban Development. The 100% collection has to be achieved by March 2014 and segregation by 2015; failure to do so may see the BMC become ineligible for central funds under Jawaharlal Nehru National Renewable Mission.
