Trash on wheels

As millions of Mumbaikars pack themselves into trains to get to work every morning, they are accompanied by an equal number of cockroaches, spiders, rats and other pests! Commuters complain of having to travel in compartments that have cobwebs on the roof, garbage on the floor, lewd graffiti on the walls and torn or dirty seats. Women commuters also complain of excreta on the compartment floors on regular occasions. On its part, the Railways claims to have scheduled sweeping of the trains every morning and washing at car sheds once every month! So much so for trains being the lifeline of the city!
