Udupi to turn ‘sparkling’

Spending 31 crore on streamlining the underground drainage system alone, the Udupi Municipal Corporation (UMC) is going to make this city a sparkling one with no traces of road-side garbage on the 75th anniversary of the formation of the civic body.

The UMC handles massive modernization in sanitation services, urban facilities and clean practices in this year with non-stop drinking water facilities extended to the city dwellers.

According to the UMC sources, a year-long platinum jubilee celebrations programme has been chalked out. Under this programme, continuous civic works would be carried out to make it a clean and green city with underground drainage system and health and sanitation accorded top priority.

Another major thrust area is modernizing the road-system under which all roads within the city limits would be made four-lane ones with traffic system made less hazardous with the support of installation of streets lights and blinkers.
