Despite having compost pits, recovery facilities and processing plants, only 11% of Uttar Pradesh’s urban local bodies (ULBs) are certified garbage-free.
In response, the state has launched a three-month special cleanliness campaign across all 762 ULBs. Running from September to November, the drive will focus on strict waste segregation, hotspot clean-ups, improved disposal and surprise inspections. User charges may also be introduced to strengthen resources and accountability.
Officials hope the blitz will set higher benchmarks for compliance and discipline, while giving residents a visible push toward cleaner neighbourhoods. The state aims to significantly improve its rankings in the next Swachh Survekshan assessment.
