Warning issued to tea garden hospitals

CIJ News, November 6, 2013

In a major development that will go a long way in restoring cleanliness and sanitation in private hospitals in the tea garden belt in North Bengal, a warning has been issued to them that if they don’t maintain the norms, their licenses would be cancelled.

The West Bengal Government’s warning says that all private hospitals in Siliguri and Jalpaiguri have to send regular reports on cleanliness drives to the State’s Health Department failing which, they may face de-licensing of their hospitals/nursing homes.

After a meeting held in Siliguri between the administration and representatives of 29 private hospitals, Dr Rudranath Bhattacharya, the MLA (of tea-town Siliguri) told to the media persons that out of the 23 private nursing homes in town, only 19-20 are sending data regularly. “If the remaining nursing homes of Siliguri fail to send details about dengue patients admitted and treated, their licenses will be cancelled as per the Clinical Establishment Act, 2006.”

This warning came in the wake of outbreak of dengue. Dr Bhattacharya said there are 79 dengue patients admitted in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. The total figure from the whole of Siliguri was received after a test for MAC Alizer on 215 people where 145 were confirmed as positive and an NS1 test on 499 people out of whom 299 were found positive,” he said.
