Waste Technology India Expo 2018

With the right kind of exhibitors and the right kind of visitors, the Waste Technology India Expo organised this time in a much bigger space in the adjoining hall, got an excellent response. Waste experts, builders, municipal corporations, mayors, manufacturing industries, hotels, hospitals, waste related government bodies, students and housing societies walked into the show to understand the waste handling, segregation and recycling technologies.

Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika demonstrated ways of turning wet garbage into compost for running fuel. A striking feature of the waste management expo was the participation of students who are experimenting RVM (Reverse Vending Machines). Students of DY Patil School from sixth grade visited various stalls at the Waste Technology India Expo inquiring about the way the business works and posed some thought provoking questions to the exhibitors.

The daylong conference on Waste Management Current Trends & Technologies was well-received by the audience. It focussed on Analytic approach to understand strategies & integrated solutions of Waste Management for Municipal and Industrial Solid and Liquid Waste. It also discussed Technologies for Solid Waste Management, Rules, Regulations and Solutions for disposal of Hazardous Waste, Sewage and Industrial Waste Water Treatment: Recycling and Reuse and Waste to Energy in Circular Economy, Management, and Financial facilitation.

Visitors Speak

Well planned visit by corporations, saw teams from Panipat, Thane and 14 other cities sourcing specific products. Panipat Corporation team sourced road sweepers and were looking for open drain cleaning machine. “We have found the solution we required in this Expo and are looking forward to purchasing some of the equipment as well. We are having Swatchata Sarvekshan team coming in February to judge our cleanliness mission and we are geared up to make Panipat a cleaner place than it is and try coming within the top 200 cities than the current rank of within 300 cities,” said Krishnakumar and Sudhir Kumar (Chief Sanitary Inspectors) and Narendra Kumar, Panipat Municipal Corporation, Haryana.

“The problem of solid waste management requires a multi-pronged strategy. The focus of Swachh Bharat is on decentralised waste processing along with composting and incineration as a last resort. The support of citizens and multiple stake holders is also an important part of strategy in the cities of India. In this context, the numerous displays which were here, and discussions done are perfectly in line of priorities of the Swachh Bharat Mission.”

Additional Municipal Commissioner Thane Corporation

“It is just two years since I have taken over the council as the Chairperson. When we took over, I could see garbage heaped up at every corner of Margao and it was a big challenge because we did not have the support of the administration. However, we went on and kept pursuing the subject. In fact, me and my friends engaged in door-to-door education. We also had the challenge of the Safai Karamcharis mixing the segregated garbage.

People throw thermocol and packing materials right at the corner. There are some dark spots in the city which are very difficult to take care. Nevertheless our efforts are on. Margaon is surrounded by 11 panchayats and a lot of waste comes from these areas due lack of waste disposal system. Many entry points are flooded with garbage. We have almost achieved a 100% in collecting from door to door as we have increased the paid sanitation process.

Being a doctor by profession, being at this show, I could understand the science behind this whole process. I interacted with a lot of resourceful people who were at the show for different kinds of solutions. What interested me the most was that there were stalls for various things. It is a wonderful experience overall.”
