A small city of Germany has found a unique way of collecting recyclable waste by providing an online platform. In most of the German cities before the rubbish trucks turn up, many of the reusable items are collected by professional recycling gangs or by locals looking for treasures. Most of the useable items land up in the compressor and eventually the landfill or incinerator. The mayor of the Karlsruhe, Klaus Stapf, has developed an online platform where people in the city can give things away for free. The website has been running for less than two weeks, but already hundreds of items are up for grabs like a DVD player, a bicycle and even a double bed.
