Why the Cleaning Industry should re-look at South India

In the last couple of years, India has witnessed tremendous growth in almost all sectors and the vibrant economy is drawing businesses from across the world. South India, where the Clean India Technology Week 2017 is scheduled to open doors in a few weeks’ time, is a high focus zone experiencing planned expansion at the commercial, retail, infrastructural and industrial levels. Clean India Journal takes a peek at the growth and the apt timing of the Show offering latest solutions to all sectors alike.

Hitex Exhibition Center in Hyderabad, the destination point of Asia leading show on Cleaning Technologies – Clean India Technology Week (CTW) 2017 – is set to create new records with over 100 exhibitors showcasing multiple products, systems and solutions from across the world. The four concurrent Expos – 14th edition of Clean India Show, 2nd edition of Laundrex India Expo, 2nd edition of Waste Technology India Expo and 2nd edition of Car Care Expo – are unique and yet closely related driving towards a common goal of Cleaning.

Cleaning, roosting on the topmost agenda of the country and a goal set for 2019 to clean India, the expos on cleaning, laundry, waste and car care draw more significance and demand. More so in South India, with almost all top brands and MNCs setting up operations and chalking expansion plans.

Talk of Information Technology segment, where Bengaluru is the IT & start-up capital of the country and houses the world’s top companies employing 70% of the IT workforce, Hyderabad bounced back as the technology destination in the last two years and today houses Google, Apple Inc, Microsoft Corp., Facebook and so on. IT is one common segment that will find solutions at all the four expos, be it for keeping the office premises and washrooms clean, providing laundry facilities, managing kitchen waste or keeping its fleet well maintained and washed.

In the commercial space, hotels which largely support the IT and tourism industry, has gone up by the score in South India. Besides, Karnataka, Andhra, and parts of Tamil Nadu which are IT centric, hotels of Kerala, have been attracting tourists internationally calling for well maintained and clean ambience always. In fact, every State across the country is promoting Tourism and sourcing products to maintain tourist spaces and services for specialized cleaning of historical monuments. The Hospitality Connect this time will have a buyers’ meet where hotel housekeepers, engineers and procurement heads will source products for their premises.

Hotels of South are particularly looking at solutions for pest, which is one of the burning issues being faced in the entire country.

City Cleaning is in high demand as Municipal Corporations are vigorously tackling issues of waste management and striving to maintain clean roads. A special round table session will bring together the Corporations, CSR heads and cleaning industry to draw synergies towards the making of clean cities.

In fact, the cleaning and waste collection when addressed at source can lead to better maintenance of the city. Manufacturing industries, which generate all kinds of solid and liquid wastes need solutions at their premises. The WTI Expo, will address the requirements of industries right from collecting waste in receptacles, treating, or digesting or disposing waste correctly.

Speaking of manufacturing industries, pharma takes the lead in South India as it houses the biggest of drug makers. The preregistrations from the pharma is encouraging and the Industrial Cleaning session on the second day of the show would give an insight into the outsourcing cleaning model, especially to the manufacturing segment.

Similarly, automobile is flourishing too with manufacturers from across the globe setting up units in West and South India. All the top leading showrooms are concentrated in and around Kerala, the most literate State with big number of car consumers. Be it an Audi or a Nissan, a Benz or Honda or Hyundai… Tata Motors or Mahindra or Maruti, you can find them all here. A good number of the car wash centers, service centers and garages are stationed in South India requiring the latest solutions in car wash and car detailing and maintenance. Car Care Expo this time on will have some the bigger players in the market, including petroleum giant HPCL.

Even more interesting is the indigenously manufactured vehicle wash system being introduced at the show, providing a niche solution and a taste of Make in India to the State Transport and private fleet owners. The Deccan city of Hyderabad is already the base for fleet giants like Uber Technologies which opened up its first service station in Asia in February last.

South India also has some of the first Smart Cities in the making Kochi in Kerala, Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in Andhra, Belagavi and Davangere in Karnataka and Coimbatore and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. With more and more Government initiatives being favourable to product and service providers, sustainable and cost effective solutions suitable in the making Smart Cities will be showcased at the Expos. Smart Cities also increase the need for system integrators and facility management services, who will be at the Show.

Facility service are constantly striving to strike a cord with the client company to enable a longstanding association. Keeping the need of the day in mind, a special workshop for facility services is being organised on the second day.

Coming back to industries, South India is a garment hub too largely concentrated in Tamil Nadu. With water being a major issue with these industries, wastewater recycling solutions are much sought after.

Clean India Journal spoke to some of the industrial segments to understand their requirements. What came to fore was demand for machines that are more affordable and have a good back up of service after sales. Steam cleaning, energy efficient cleaning, back pack and battery operated machines were some of the solutions that industries are looking at sourcing. With Pharma, it is more to do with certified standard products.

At the laundry end, retail and commercial segments are keen on finding innovative and new solutions. Many in the retail are particularly interested in Press products. The LaundreNet, once again this year, will be held on the third day and witness the laundry segment network and exchange knowledge through panel discussion and presentations.

This is probably the right time, as the Show would draw almost all the industries under one roof. The supporting partners for CTW 2017 include Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Indian Professional Housekeepers’ Association, Hospitality Purchasing Managers’ Forum, Indian Pest Control Association alongside Buzil Rossari, Kibble Enterprises and Quick Clean.
