Air quality of Indian cities to be gauged

The pollution level, rising very sharply in different Indian cities would now be mapped regularly in a scientific way the Automatic Air Monitoring Systems (AAMS) are going to be installed there in immediate future.

The CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) is going to install the AAMS in UP, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu to gauge the level of atmospheric pollutions, Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM), Ozone layer and the Respiratory Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM).

According to the CPCB, the first AAMS is going to be installed in two months’time at Bareilly to study and fathom these atmospheric problems in Badayun, Pilibhit, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Haldwani, Ranikhet, Nainital and Pithoragarh.

The AAMS will record the air-quality data related to presence of gases every four hours while SPM and RSPM will be measured every eight hours. This will help scientifically detect the trend of pollution in Bareilly and its adjoining cities/areas.

The pollution level, caused by the emission of greenhouse gases, have enhanced the pollution levels in air in Bareilly and other cities in UP and Uttarakhand. The data logger of AAMS would daily send the facts, figures and other air-quality facts for scientific study.

Chennai, Patna, Varanasi and Jammu/Srinagar are other cities where this system is going to be installed.
