Drop boxes for E-waste

Odisha will soon have drop boxes at various points in all its 30 districts to collect e-waste. The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has asked five authorised collection centres to set up collection boxes at waste generating points like banks, industries, hospitals, IT companies, telephone service providers and educational institutions.

The non-recyclable e-waste dumped in the box can be collected by authorized centres. Installation of the boxes will help to generate awareness about proper disposal of e-waste.

Even though the e-waste rules were notified in May, 2011, producers of electrical and electronic equipment have been given one-year buffer period to set up their recycling and collection centres for scientific disposal of junk.
