Kochi to soon have MSW-based CNG bottles

The township of Kochi will soon have bottled CNG extracted from MSW. The CNG can be purchased by vehicle owners and also by household for cooking purposes.

The Local Self Government Department of Kerala has floated the Clean Kerala Company Limited (CKCL) for commercial exploitation of methane gas produced from the MSW. The CKCL besides focusing on self-sustained sanitation programme, aims to maintain urban hygiene by converting MSW for natural gas.

The modern scientific technique would be integrated in the MSW management system for utilising by-products of waste treatment. After Kochi, similar plants are going to be set up at various locations in Kerala.
