Dr Krishna said that in good urban planning, though providing infrastructure for mobility has been one aspect, the other one has been providing infrastructure for water supply, streetlight and solid waste management. Compared to many countries, our progress in urban development has not been very remarkable. “Though the momentum of development is picking up in all the spheres, when it comes to solid waste management we do not have the required expertise.” Dr Krishna stated that waste management can be a self-sustaining venture in terms of technology, governance and in terms of finance. He pointed out that there was a need for understanding and sharing of the financial viability modeling. Private partners could share the details regarding models in other countries and also being adopted in the country.
