Eco-initiatives at IIM

Members of the ECoBiZ Club at IIM Shillong have come up with an initiative by placing bamboo-made waste bins or khoh at various places in the campus. The bins have been designed using indigenous contraptions and have been manufactured by the Meghalaya Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation. Khoh – a coarse, closed-weave basket used by the Khasis for carrying goods to the market is also now being popularly utilised as a waste bin in the campus. The club intends to have an in-house compost pit to manage bio-degradable waste and also start rainwater harvesting programmes.
