SC Railway plans to outsource OBHS

The South-Central Railway has planned to outsource the housekeeping services of certain long-distance trains to professional service providers. Speaking to CIJ, M Vijaya Kumar, Sr DME, (C & W)/BG of South Central Railway (Secunderabad) says, “The cleaning contractor has to provide OBHS in Group-II trains like the Patna Express, Intercity Express, Bikaner Express, LTT Duronto Express and Rajkot Express for a period of two years. The contractor would have to depute at least one supervisor and one janitor for three coaches.

“The janitor has to provide on-board cleaning twice a day or whenever desired/demanded by the passengers at the toilets, doorways, gangways and vestibules. The contractor would use state-of-the-art tools and environment friendly biodegradable cleaning agents/consumables.”

The contract also includes wiping of the platform side window glasses of all the AC coaches at those stations where stoppage is five minutes or more and are not nominated ‘Clean Train Station’.

Vijaya Kumar further explains, “The garbage/litter shall be collected from the coaches in polybags. These polybags shall be handed over to the agency nominated by C&W representative at nominated en-route and terminal stations for each train for further disposal.”
