Shared Value Initiative

Sealed Air Corporation has recently launched a shared value initiative ‘Soap for Hope™’ in collaboration with Doctors for You, an NGO in Mumbai. The initiative is aimed to collect used soaps from hotels, recycle those into fresh bars and distribute freely among the communities with limited or zero access to soaps. Various hotel groups have already given their nod to the initiative.

“Apart from ensuring better hygiene and disease prevention among the underprivileged sections of the society, the project aims to also generate employment for women emboldening their working skills. Running on the cold press technique, the beauty of the initiative is that the system involved is portable and needs no electricity and running water,” Himanshu Jain, MD and VP Sealed Air Indian-subcontinent and South East Asia, Sealed Air, told Clean India Journal during a press conference.

Dr Rajat Jain, Vice President, Doctors For You, said, “We have started this initiative in areas like Govandi, Mankhurd, Tatanagar and Deonar to start with in Mumbai. We plan to extend this initiative to other slum areas and take it to cities like Jaipur, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and others. The aim of this initiative is not only to distribute soaps, but also provide employment opportunities to men and women at the village level.”

Also present at the launch were Stefan Phang, Director-Sustainability & CSR, Sealed Air Corporation and Dr Naresh Gill, Head, Mumbai Operations.
