Solar toilets

The Tamil Nadu state has received its first solar powered toilets with the setting up of three units in Chennai. The ‘Namma Toilets’ are user friendly with a stall each for elderly and disabled, women and men. The blocks work on sensors that ensure that lights are used only when the stalls are occupied. The toilets cost 70,000 per stall and have two digesters to process the sewage. The free to use toilets will have two workers deployed for cleaning, with the IDBI bank maintaining it from April.
