Toilet Woes

More than half of the 80,000 government schools in Andhra Pradesh have no toilets, and where they exist, they are in bad shape. In every fourth government high school, girls have to share toilets with boys. As per official statistics, only 35.34% of government schools have toilets for boys, and just 27.55% schools have toilets for girls. As a result, girl students suffer from several health problems. Though the government has provided toilets in government schools, these are not properly maintained and a large number of toilets are unusable due to lack of water connection and sanitation staff.
