Nalbari, a small town of Assam once considered dirty and undisciplined, now paints a different picture of clean & green identity of the town. In an initiative taken by Deputy Commissioner Dr Om Prakash two years back, citizens, owners of business establishments as well as the government and private offices of the town, participated in a series of awareness meetings regarding cleaning and waste management. Citizens were also requested to paint their buildings and premises with a single colour giving the town a distinct identity.
The commissioner has already banned the use of polythene bags and other such materials in the district. Shopkeepers too were asked to keep two green coloured dustbins and two flower tubs in front of their shops.
