Green wall with
35,000 plants for

Mumbai Airport

n the occasion of the Earth Day
2024, the Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj International Airport
(CSMIA) in Mumbai unveiled
Oa ‘Vertical Green Wall’ at the
airport. The installation comprises 35,000
plants of 30 varieties.
The green wall encompasses approximately
1,000sqm of lush green walls, seamlessly
integrated throughout Terminal 1, Terminal 2,
General Aviation Terminal and the ceremonial
lounge. Each green wall is equipped with an
inbuilt drainage and drip irrigation system,
ensuring efficient water usage that saves over
50% compared to conventional watering
methods.
The initiative aims to reduce carbon
footprint while improving passenger
experience.
About 30 plant varieties, totalling more than
35,000 plants, are planted with the growing
medium composed of coconut industry waste
and neem-based manure. This sustainable
approach to horticulture fosters healthy
plant growth. The green wall pots are easily
replaceable, allowing for flexible design
changes. The integration of wheels allows
for easy movement of the green walls, while
the design enables them to be dismantled and
installed in a few minutes.
Various patterns, shapes and festive plants
will be displayed throughout the year adding
an “element of delight” to the traveller’s
journey.
