The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has planned an eco-town project with the help of the Japanese city of Kitu Kyushu. The SMC plan would help the city become an eco-town in dealing with e-waste and industrial & municipal waste on Triple-R concept (Reduce, Recycle & Reuse). A delegation from the city of Kitu Kyushu, an eco-town of Japan, visited the diamond city twice in the past 11 months, once in January and in September.
