The Central Government has identified three towns in Uttarakhand for the implementation of its urban sanitation plan. The project aims to prevent solid waste and sewage from being dumped into the river Ganga and facilitate civic sanitation in Rishikesh’s Munikireti area. Around 750 homes were surveyed as part of the implementation of the first and second phase of the plan in this area. The Panchayat employees will collect garbage from residential, commercial and other institutions in town. Organic and inorganic garbage will be segregated and disposed scientifically as required. In addition, the sewers draining into the Ganga will also be closed to prevent contamination of the river.
