Having become too well-educated to take up sanitation work, the children of sanitation workers are reluctant to clean the municipal schools under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Moreover, the shortage of sweepers has also led to a crisis-like situation in Bangalore. Parts of modern Bangalore resemble backward areas of the State and sweepers are being sought from neighboring regions like Gulbarga and Raichur. The city urgently needs at least 40 sanitary workers.
