Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has inaugurated its new scooter manufacturing plant at Ahmedabad, which is its fourth two-wheeler unit in the country. The total cost of setting up the unit is `11 billion with a capacity of 1.2 million automatic scooters per year. The plant has already commenced operations. The second line to add another 600,000 units/ year will start operations in mid of 2016.
The new fourth plant will increase the company’s total annual production capacity to 5.8 million units, including 1.6 million units at first plant (Haryana), 1.2 million units at second plant (Rajasthan), 1.8 million units at third plant (Karnataka) and another 1.2 million units at the fourth plant (Gujarat). More than 30% of the area in the plant is green zone and the first unit to have ‘Integrate Zero Liquid Discharge Facility’ in the line of 3R principle of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
