The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has planned to build dedicated toilets for women at 2km intervals around the city. After construction, the maintenance and management will be handed over to various NGOs. By this move, the civic body aims to improve sanitary standards by providing free-to-use washrooms for women. The decision has partly been steered by 35 local NGOs, which also want the civic body to recruit female cleaners and equip the toilets with sanitary pad vending machines.
