This initiative is aimed at tackling the 100 to 125 tonnes of textile waste generated daily, which cannot be processed with regular solid waste management systems.
Pune generates a substantial amount of waste daily, with around 1,200 to 1,300 tonnes of dry waste and 900 to 1,000 tonnes of wet waste. Of the dry waste, approximately 100 to 125 tonnes consists of textile waste, including items such as mattresses, cushions, clothes, sofas, glass fibers, leather bags, shoes, and more. The new textile waste processing unit will offer an eco-friendly solution to manage this growing waste stream while preventing harm to nature.
The unit will address the challenges associated with processing textile waste, such as its large size and difficulty in compression, which often causes blockages in regular waste management conveyors.
