occasion of World FM Day on May 12, Clean India Journal salutes the frontrunners in FM for their contribution and sacrifice in the making of a safer world. We dedicate this and the forthcoming issues of the magazine to facility management.
The Clean India Team set out to study the challenges facing the service sector and came up with some interesting and contradictory facts. FM today has, and will continue to need to go through a complete change in every aspect to meet the requirement of creating safe and sustainable living and work places. This entails reskilling, retraining, replanning, re-allocating and yes, re-budgeting…of course, on the higher side!
However, are the customers outsourcing services to a FM service provider prepared to invest that extra bit for their own safety and sustainability? Is the headcount business in for a change or is it still wrapped up in the traditional mould of manpower management? Well, the reports received are contradictory, still sloping towards worker-based contracts.
FM, on the whole, is a people’s profession working to make workplaces safer and cleaner for the people. Clean India Journal will follow the changes and publish reports and viewpoints in the magazine.
Beginning with this issue, Clean India Journal is tracing the history of FM’s evolution into the future with Jolly Kochery, who has retired after serving for several decades in FM, and Tarun Ramrakhiani, the new CEO of SMS services. Spelling out the challenges facing FM during this change is the report on the recently concluded virtual discussion in which leading FM professionals participated. Owning to lockdown, one other challenge faced is the maintenance of closed facilities. Sonia Mital shared her viewpoint on maintaining and keeping closed facilities fresh. Pancham Narkar wrote about integrating new-age tech to keep new-age buildings safe.
Lately, Clean India Journal has been engaging with readers, end-users and industry professionals on virtual media. Touching upon one of the most flourishing and upcoming segments – Cloud Kitchens – that have increased by the score over the last one year, a virtual debate on Cloud Kitchen hygiene was organised by Clean India Journal. A brief report on the important takeaways gives some interesting insights. The magazine will be coming up with more statistics and a polling report on this topic in the next issue.
