A 25-year-old legacy in service excellence

In the first of many conversations with Clean India Journal, UR Uday Kumar, MD, Amps Facilities Management Services Pvt Ltd narrates the story of his organisation and how its vast experience has positioned it as an industry leader.

What inspired you to enter the service business?

The aim was to create employment opportunities for rural candidates. There were not many job opportunities in rural areas for technically qualified, skilled candidates who completed their education in rural areas. They had to go to major cities like Bengaluru, Mangalore, Mysore etc. There were few opportunities in private industries and government organisations too; moving abroad was both tough and competitive.

At that time, the growth of the IT industry had started in Bangalore; correspondingly, we envisioned immense potential for the facility management industry.

In 1999, we did aggressive marketing to provide dedicated 24/7 uninterrupted professional FM engineering services initially. Now, we are a full-fledged leading FM company.

We started with two employees; over two decades, our employee strength has grown to 20,000+ with a client base of more than 400. With 25 years of experience, we have an unparalleled track record with some of the world’s most prestigious companies and organisations, including Microsoft, Google, HCL, Wipro, AstraZeneca, Toyota and many more

What have been the highlights of your company’s journey from 1999 until now?

2003: Recognised as the ‘Fastest growing Indian company in Facility Management” by FM GLOBALNET.

2005: QMS ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001. At present, 45001, EMS 14001 certified company with US Green Building Council certification. Expanded Pan-India operations with offices in major cities – Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, Noida, Gurgaon, Mangalore and Madurai.

2012: Collaboration with TU WIEN (Technical University of Vienna, Austria) for technology knowledge sharing upgrades of working professionals.

2013: Awarded the best electro-mechanical service provider – India region on the sidelines of 43rd Facility Management and Commercial Real Estate & Business Leadership Summit. Acquired a leading housekeeping entity and renamed it as VALUE ADDS Facilities Management

2015: First Indian FM company to establish services in UAE, in association with Ali Hassan Ahmed Ali Al Suwaidi. Started overseas operations under the flagship Amps MEP Technical Services LLC, providing high quality, comprehensive and strategic services in Dubai.

2023: Currently managing in excess of 30 million sq ft and expanding
