The father-son duo, K Shankar and Senthil, of Shree Renga Polymers in Tamil Nadu have taken to recycling PET bottles into fashionwear brand, EcoLine. The plastic waste goes through the process of collection & sorting, crushing & flaking, melting & spinning, weaving into fabric and waterless drying. The team has developed a customer base stretching across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Puducherry.
According to EcoLine, eight PET bottles can be recycled to make one T-shirt, 20 for a jacket, and 30 for a blazer. This sustainable fashionwear is priced between Rs500 to Rs6,000. A blue jacket made from 25 PET bottles recycled by EcoLine made news as Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore it for a session in Parliament.
