Aaditya Thackeray inaugurates the community toilet block in Mumbai
India’s largest community toilet block was inaugurated at Dharavi in Mumbai, by Maharashtra Environment Ministry Aaditya Thackeray on 9th February. It aims to provide 50,000 residents with bathing facilities, laundry services and RO drinking water. With its inbuilt greywater treatment plant, the block will help save 6.5 million litres of water a year. Adding further to its green credentials is a solar panel for power generation.
Thackeray said ‘Today, we launched a Suvidha Kendra with 111 toilet seats in Dharavi, making it the biggest community toilet block in India. We are committed to improving the living standards of the residents by providing them easy access to clean water, hygiene and sanitation.”
He went on to add that similar Suvidha Kendras will be set up at 10 other locations in Ghatkopar, Dharavi, Chembur, Bandra, Santacruz and Govandi.
