Effective Disinfectant for Hospital Surfaces

Efficient bactericidal, virucidal, tuberculocidal, fungicidal and sporicidal

Continued and preventive maintenance of hospital infrastructure assures a safe environment for patients, visitors & hospital staff, reduces cross contamination and improves overall healthcare quality.

Cleaning and disinfection of hospital floors and surfaces assume significant importance in any healthcare setting. SAC S-125 by Surfactants and Allied Chemicals Pvt. Ltd (SAC) cleans and disinfects floors & surfaces.

Applications: It has been specially formulated to meet the needs of disinfection at hospitals, industries, offices, food & beverage industries, and dairy units.  It is effective against a wide range of microbes, gram positive and gram negative bacteria, yeasts and molds.

Critical Area Surfaces / High Risk areas: Use 15ml of SAC S-125 with 1lt of water for floors, equipment, OT, walls (mopping and wiping)

Non Critical Area Surfaces / Low Risk areas: Use 7-8ml of SAC S-125 with 1lt of water for cleaning common areas like halls, reception, corridors and wards

Fogging: Use 15ml SAC S-125 with 1lt of water in the fogging machine for high risk areas like OT and ICU. Follow the machine manufacturer’s operation manual

Methodology

SAC S-125 can be applied through various methods like wiping, mopping using sponge, cloth, fogging machine, hand spray and scrubber. Prior to cleaning, surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned clean of blood and body fluids. Allow treated surfaces to be wet for 10 minutes. Proper PPE to be used. Wash the mop under running water before doing wet mopping.

Disinfection Process for Hospital Floors

Using the 3 bucket system

Bucket 1: Diluted Disinfectant / Cleaning solution

Bucket 2: Rinsing water

Bucket 3: Wastewater

Clean Solution Bucket — Fill the first, clean bucket with the disinfectant cleaning solution SAC S 125. Using your mop, soak it in the solution.

Waste Bucket – Squeeze any surplus cleaning solution from your mop into the waste bucket.

Mop – Using mopping, apply the solution to the surface in zig zag method. Waste Bucket — For the second time, squeeze the wastewater into the waste bucket.

Rinse your mop in the third bucket, which has been filled with rinsing water

Squeeze excess rinsing solution into the waste bucket

Repeat the mopping process.

For hospital wards with beds, use the 8-pattern of mopping, also called zig zag mopping

•     The direction of cleaning in healthcare facilities must be from the clean to the dirty area

•     In closed spaces like a ward the direction should be from within outwards

•     Before cleaning with SAC S 125, blood, body fluids should be wiped off

•     Mop the floors with a mop (keep separate mops for OTs/ high risk areas)

•     Dip scrubber / sponge / cloth in SAC S 125 solution to disinfect tables, cots, walls and other surfaces of high risk areas

•     Clean more frequently based on footfalls / change of patients

•     The direction of cleaning must be from the clean (least soiled) to the dirty area (most soiled)

•     An area of 100 to 120sqft should be mopped before re-dipping the mop in the solution

•     Never shake mops

•     Do not ‘double-dip’ mops (dip the mop only once in the cleaning solution, as dipping it multiple times may re contaminate it)

•     Use wet floor or caution signs to prevent injuries

•     Mop in a systematic manner, proceed from area far from the exit and work towards the exit

•     Clean hands and use hand sanitiser on leaving the room
