In a novel way to make ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir litter-free, the authorities have provided “cane baskets and eco-friendly carry bags” to tourists visiting the Gulmarg and Drung areas. The campaign was launched by an NGO, Socio-Economic Research Bureau, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Municipal Committee, Jammu & Kashmir.
Under the scheme, the cane baskets and eco-friendly carry bags were provided against a deposit of `50 on the entry point (Toll Post), which was refunded after handing over the bags and baskets full of litter to the volunteers of Municipal Committee and NGO. Till date, the NGO had handed over 300 cane baskets and 35,000 people-friendly paper bags for distribution.
