MCGM to implement waste to energy

Situated in the Eastern Suburbs of the city, in an area of about 141 Ha along the Thane creek, Kanjur is a proposed site for municipal solid waste processing and disposal. Kanjur will be able to process 4 000 tonnes of waste scientifically and is expected to generate 12 MW energy. The project involves development of sanitary landfill with sufficient storage capacity to serve the site for at least 25 years. It shall have a provision for leachate collection, primary treatment and gas collection system.

S.G. Chitale, Chief Engineer, Solid Waste Management (SWM) said, “This will be the first Sanitary Landfill site in MCGM. It will have composting facilities for processing of 1000 MTPD MSW and a Bio Reactor plant of capacity 3000 MTPD MSW.”

MCGM has awarded the project on a design, build, own, operate and transfer (DBOOT) basis for a period of 25 years to a joint venture between M/s Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd Navi Mumbai and M/s Lara Central De Tratamento De Recious Limited (JV).
