The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, inaugurated Gujarat’s largest waste-to-energy plant at Piplaj, Ahmedabad. The new waste-to-energy (WTE) plant is a public-private partnership (PPP) initiative developed in collaboration with Jindal Urban Waste Management Limited. It is designed to process 1,000 metric tons of municipal solid waste daily, generating 15 megawatts of electricity per hour. The facility employs advanced RDF-based Martin Reverse Grate Firing Technology, which incinerates waste in boilers to produce 65 tons of steam per hour, ultimately supplying power to the grid.
Developed at an estimated cost of approximately Rs375 crore, the plant not only aims to enhance waste management in the city but also contributes to environmental conservation efforts. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which oversees waste management in the city, has long dealt with thousands of metric tons of waste daily, and this new facility represents a crucial step in its commitment to sustainability.
