Dr Panigrahi highlighted Larsen & Toubro’s significant achievements in reducing CO2 emissions and water consumption, emphasising the importance of real-time equipment performance monitoring through IoT. The company’s proactive approach and the support from board members and senior management have been crucial in improving their emissions score and advancing their sustainability agenda.

C J Ajesh underscored the critical role of communication, appreciation, and providing sustainable solutions in facility management and corporate real estate. He shared innovative examples, such as distributing seed balls to employees and addressing food waste in cafeterias, demonstrating practical ways to engage employees in sustainability initiatives.

Keith Monteiro provided an overview of Reliance Industries Limited’s sustainability model in the manufacturing sector, focusing on their transition to green energy and their commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2035. He highlighted the importance of diversification, technology integration, and practical implementation in their factories, showcasing their circular technology approach in recycling plastic bottles and converting plastic back into oil.

Challenges and Solutions:

The panellists also discussed the challenges and roadblocks encountered during the implementation of sustainability initiatives. Dr Panigrahi emphasised the need for creative strategies to incorporate sustainable practices into services, highlighting Larsen & Toubro’s focus on using recycled materials and their commitment to increasing their green revenue.

C J Ajesh pointed out the resistance to change and the lack of understanding of sustainability concepts among employees. He stressed the importance of creating a ‘green brigade’ within the organisation, encouraging employees to get certified in sustainability, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

Keith Monteiro addressed the financial aspects of implementing sustainability measures, emphasising the need for strategic financial planning and focusing on practical solutions, such as using biomass and ethanol, improving gas fire performance, and investing in solar energy.

The emphasis on real-time monitoring, employee engagement, creative solutions, and strategic financial planning underscored the multifaceted approach required to navigate the complexities of corporate sustainability and achieve long-term success.
