More than 1,000 Madagascar hissing cockroaches will be given to elementary schools and children’s organisations in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana to increase interest in science and promote entomology. Detroit based Rose Pest Solutions will donate live insects, plastic habitats and care instructions.
The large, oval-shaped cockroaches are native to the island of Madagascar in Africa. They live on the forest floor and can grow up to three inches long. They hiss while fighting and during mating rituals.
