Shopping on the river

The filth filled, stench-emitting Sabarmati river will now turn into a shopping and entertainment zone on the pattern of the Seine riverfront of Paris. French architect Bernard Kohn, who lived in Ahmedabad in the 1960s, will design the structure, which will also have promenades, garden amusement park, walkway development, construction of road along the river, golf course and water sports. This self-financing project of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, will generate revenue from the sale of reclaimed land. This project will not only add beauty but also contribute to the cleanliness and hygiene of the city. Already an underwater sewage pipeline system is in place to take care of domestic and industrial waste disposal.
