Building Sustainable Waste Business Models — ULBs to Corporates
The Waste Management & Technology Conference held during the Clean India Show 2024 brought together key stakeholders and professionals from across industries, government, and environmental groups. With a focus on turning waste into business opportunities, the conference highlighted the transformative potential of circular economy models and innovative waste-to-resource technologies.
A key takeaway was the Prayagraj Model which demonstrated how waste could be harnessed as a valuable resource to create a sustainable business model. This approach underlines the importance of integrating circular economy principles at the local level to drive large-scale environmental and economic change. The other case studies shared by industry leaders — bio-CNG production from organic waste and water recycling & conservation — explored concrete examples of how waste management could align with broader sustainability and net-zero targets.
Additionally, the speakers delved into the role of technology in waste management, presenting digital solutions for advancing circularity in waste processing. The importance of policy frameworks — such as those on e-waste recycling and plastic waste management guidelines — shared by industry experts highlighted the critical role of government regulations in enabling a sustainable waste economy.
The conference emphasized that achieving a sustainable future hinges on the integration of innovation, cutting-edge technology, and supportive policy frameworks.
