Indian roads are to get a face-lift with the introduction of crumb rubber in road mixture
The Government of India has initiated the use of crumb rubber into its construction process. The introduction of this material along with other additives has found to improve the performance and quality of the roads. This material is proving to be a much better option as compared to the normal bitumen material that was used earlier for road construction.
The Indian Roads Congress (IRC) has published guidelines on the use of modified bitumen in road construction which will prove to be most helpful going forward.
The new mixture, hopes to prevent the hazardous repercussions of disposing worn out rubber tyres in the country. The crumb rubber material will be used to coat and help make the pavements more well- trodden. With this process in place, Indian roads have a promising future.
