Year after year, Hyderabad struggles with waterlogging, traffic snarls and overflowing drains every monsoon, largely due to silt-choked stormwater lines.
To break the cycle, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a robotic pilot project in Mehdipatnam (Circle-12). Equipped with high-resolution CCTV cameras, the robotic machines can detect and clear blockages with precision, targeting the silt and debris that cripple the city’s drainage network.
The move is not just about efficiency — it also protects sanitation workers from unsafe manual drain cleaning. If successful, GHMC plans to expand the use of robotic cleaning across the city, making technology a frontline defence against Hyderabad’s seasonal flooding.
