Meghalaya ‘Mission Clean Shillong 2027’

In preparation for hosting the upcoming National Games, the Meghalaya government has launched “Mission Clean Shillong 2027,” a two-year campaign aiming to transform Shillong into one of the cleanest cities in India.

Spearheaded by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the mission promotes a community-driven approach to ensure litter-free streets, clean water, and pure air. Emphasizing participatory governance, the initiative encourages localities to conduct monthly clean-up drives, practice waste segregation, and compete for the “Cleanest Locality” title, incentivizing proactive public involvement.

The draft plan is open for public feedback until June 25, inviting suggestions from citizens, civil society organizations, and local leaders through various channels including email, phone, or in-person at the Shillong Municipal Board office. The effort comes at a crucial time as the city prepares to welcome athletes and tourists from across the country.
